MIs in Action
Well before Our Lady called us to consecrate ourselves as "her possesssion and property," several members of our MI Village were committed to defending the sanctity of life.
Cathy, Gail, and I, as the first members, had been traveling every week to the nearest abortion mill 45 minutes away. We prayed rosaries on the trip there and at the killing center, in rain, shine, cold, or snow.
As friends consecrated themselves to Our Lady, and our Mother of Mercy Village grew, pro-life prayers and work became part of our mission. We prayed that babies be saved, that mothers who had abortions receive forgiveness and healing, that the abortionist and his assistants be converted. Pope John Paul II's Prayer for Life was prayed at our meetings.
The Missionary Image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was set up on the sidewalk in front of the local Planned Parenthood office and at the abortion mill, and many came to pray to the Patroness of the Unborn. We began a weekly picket and rosary in front of the local Planned Parenthood office to educate the public on the truth of that organization's anti-God, anti=life, anti-family agenda. We gave the Miraculous Medal to those who stopped to talk to us and to mothers at the abortion mill.
On the Wednesday before Christmas, 2001, while sidewalk counseling, our prayers were heard in a dramatic way. Two of us MI members were able to bring a pregnant young woman directly from the abortion mill to the crisis pregnancy center. After receiving counseling there, she cancelled her appointment to have an abortion the next day. Diane and I continue to volunteer at the center and to pray that more abortion-minded women will be sent there, that lives may be saved.
Three of us attended the March for Life in Washington in 2002 and 2003. This year we met Joe Scheidler of the Pro-Life Action League in Chicago and invited him to speak in Appleton. Joe won the NOW v Scheidler case before the Supreme Court on Feb. 26. The Court ruled that Joe and his co-defendants could not be prosecuted as racketeers under the RICO Act, and free speech rights of pro-lifers were upheld. In Joe's words, "This ruling is a victory not only for us, but for the babies, and ultimately a victory for the Lord of Life." Many hearts were touched by Joe's witness of 30 years of activism in defending babies and women, and his call to do even more to save lives and souls.
In the words of Barbara Mc Guigan, a noted pro-life educator speaking on EWTN after the March for Life, "Unless, and untill, the pro-life movement becomes a Marian movement, it will not succeed." I believe this is a prophetic call for all Knights of the Immaculata. In our consecration prayer, we say "God has willed to entrust the entire order of mercy to you." May the Immaculata, Mother of Mercy, use us to bring mercy to suffering women and men and to save the lives of the innocent unborn. Let us also invoke St. Maximilian's intercession for the closing of the 700 "death camps" in our country.

Carol Marola, MI member, is spreading the "Word of the Rosary." Several months ago she learned how to make cord rosaries for the missions. A short while she learned that our military troops in battle were in need of a special type of cord rosaries. She started the Rosary Makers group in two parishes and taught others to teach others how to make the rosaries. The more we work for Our Blessed Mother, the more our lives are enriched with other blessings through the people we are meeting.
